Welcome to Amanda’s Athenæum!
I’m Amanda and this is where I discuss genealogy, libraries and archives, cultural heritage, and travel. I am newly married and live in Central New York where I am an archivist and retail manager (odd, I know, but it will make sense later…). In May I will receive my MS in library and information science with a certificate of advanced study in cultural heritage preservation from Syracuse University.
In my spare time I:
- Am a genealogist
- Am a reader (mostly non-fiction)
- Love to sing, watch movies and drink wine and bubble tea, depending on the occasion
- Am an avid traveler and have been to 3 continents, a dozen countries and over 30 states
- Run for my sanity and health. Currently, I am training for my first half-marathon.
In relation to my MSLIS, I
- Want to help others with their family history search, either directly on their genealogical research or through the heritage of the area their family came from
- Am interested in programming, particularly with primary source documents to children to get them interested in history
- Web 2.0 and emerging technologies (both in how they assist with preserving cultural heritage and how they connect genealogists and enable them to further their search)
- In user-centered libraries, which combines my job history of customer service and retail management with my MSLIS (see, I told you it would all make sense:-)).
